About
Southern Stage Stories is an editorial publication about theatre across the South. We follow the work onstage and around it: scripts, performance, stagecraft, venues and the traditions that shape how a show meets its audience.
Theatre in its setting
A production is not only its script or cast. The size and shape of a room, the way people gather, and the materials available to make a scene all affect what reaches the audience. We pay attention to those particulars without treating any one place as a stand-in for the whole South.
For curious theatregoers and makers
The publication is for readers who enjoy live performance, take part in it, or want a better sense of how it is put together. We explain terms when they matter and keep the focus on choices a reader can see, hear or ask about.
A close read, not a verdict
We value clear description over grand claims. Our pieces consider what a production is trying to do, how its parts work together and what remains open to interpretation. Where a detail is uncertain, we say so rather than filling the gap.
